Diabetes is diagnosed when

Two fasting blood glucose values are greater than 126 mg/dl, or
Two random blood glucose values are more greater than 200 mg/dl accompanied with symptoms.

What does ‘Control’ mean?

There is no cure for diabetes in any Medicine, but Ayurveda and Siddha has learnt abount several thousand years and it has experimented with it and has found several measures to treat and control Diabetes. The goal of treatment is to control it, i.e. to keep your blood sugar as close to “normal” as possible. We call this “good control”. This “good control” helps you feel better and you’ll have fewer long – term health problems related to diabetes.

Blood Sugar Levels:

The normal fasting blood sugar content is 80 – 120 mg per 100 ml of blood This can go up to a level of 160 mg per 100 ml of blood, 2 hours after meals(Post Prandial). Anything above these levels is termed as diabetes.

Why should you control your diabetes?

It is one of the leading causes of death Increases the risk of dying from heart attack or stroke
A major cause of blindness, kidney failure and amputations of the lower extremities
The goal for all people with diabetes is proper control of their blood glucose levels. By keeping these levels in the non – diabetic range, people reduce their risk of complications associated with the disease. People who achieve good control over their blood sugars feel better, have more energy, and are less prone to severe swings in blood sugar levels.

Diabetes in Ayurveda:

As said earlier. Ayurveda have understood this disease since ancient times. It explains the cause of the disease to sedentary life style, eating heavy foods, oversleeping etc. Surprisingly, the Ayurveda recommends physical exercises and reduction of weight, along with medications. Lot of good time honoured Ayurvedic preparations are available to overcome this killer disease Diabetes.
